Arabic script default font size

In the SAB help it explains how to change the default text size:

In an Arabic script project, I changed this from 20px to 24px, and then to 40px, and it made no difference in the default text size. (Uninstalling the app each time, of course, to get the default text size.) Does this no longer work, or does it maybe not work for Arabic script text?

Thanks,
Jeff

Note that in the body style that direction is set to LTR, but when I changed that to RTL, it moved the drop cap chapter numbers to the left side of the page. I had to change it back to LTR to keep the drop cap chapter number on the right side of the page. Is that maybe a clue?

Well, my potential “clue” above did lead me to the solution. When I changed the body style (in the main Appearance > Styles) to RTL it started showing the chapter number in LTR. (So I changed it back.) But the app was displaying properly as RTL, and I remembered at that point that this RTL setting was set in the Book Collection, on the Styles tab there. When I got there, I was a little surprised to see all of the text styles duplicated there. Which of course means that all of the style changes that you make in the main Appearance > Styles tool will have no effect on styles on any books in the book Collection - it has its own version of the styles! That seems a little counter-intuitive to me… I would think the main styles list would define all styles, and the Collection styles list would only override styles it wants to be different for the Collection. Note also that in my initial post, the excerpt from the help file is specifically in the section on Picture Books, so maybe the main text styles do apply to Picture Books?

The good news is when I changed the font size in the body style in the Collection, then the initial app font size did indeed change.

I did notice one small bug, however. I now have the body style font-size set to 24px. When I install and open the app the first time, it does indeed show the text in a larger font. (But remember that this is only on the initial run after install. Re-opening the app afterwards always remembers and uses the font size you used on the last run…) But if I tap on the AA font configuration icon, it shows a font size of 14:

That’s actually not correct. If I move the slider up to 24, it will give me the same font size as what I see here. But if I bring it back down to 14, it will give me a much smaller font:

So that initial value of the slider of 14 is not correct. Maybe that’s just the default value that is displayed, and it doesn’t take into consideration the actual font-size of the body style that is being displayed? But as soon as you start moving the slider, it starts using the font size on the slider in the text. So if you move it slightly to the left (we’re in RTL, so that’s larger), the number goes up to 15, but the text actually takes a big jump down in size.

That’s a fairly minor problem, but something that would be good to address sometime…

Hi Jeff,
I’ll look into this. Thanks for your help! Yes, I noticed that the documentation under 16.6 doesn’t mention the book collection styles override! I missed that…
15.5.7 is the section about the book collection Styles tab that correctly specifies the default text size.
