I haven’t seen this in ongoing versions. If it is already available, please someone explain it. Otherwise the post may kindly be voted to get it implemented.
Page flip transitions in a book app offer a delightful and immersive reading experience.
“Page flip transitions emulate the tactile feel of turning a physical page, offering a nostalgic touch to digital reading.”
“Page flip transitions seamlessly blend the charm of print books with the convenience of digital reading.”
“Page flips enhance the app’s visual appeal and sophistication.”
“They bridge the gap between physical and digital reading for a broader audience.”
“Page flip transitions prioritize user experience, ensuring smooth interaction with the content.”
“They rejuvenate classic literature while preserving a connection to tradition.”
Page flip transitions can add a unique and engaging element to a book app, enhancing the overall reading experience and attracting readers who appreciate the fusion of tradition and technology.
It also adds bloat for eye-candy which will potentially confuse the user since it doesn’t match how the UI works:
SAB apps scroll to the next/previous verses by swiping vertically, so flipping the page doesn’t match the movement
Flipping the page by swiping left/right will change the chapter instead of going to the next/previous verses (on the next/previous “page”) so the result doesn’t match the real world action
Waiting for the animation/transition slows access to the text
Attempting to recreate real world experience takes away some of the advantages of the digital experience
With a paper book, flipping a page is done to continue reading to the next page and therefore the next verse (on most of the pages). Flipping the page in the app (swiping left/right) and showing an animation that looks like the experience of the printed book, which does not match this result, might be confusing to the reader.
What you could do to indicate moving to the next chapter is add a right aligned page corner icon
at the end of a chapter
(and maybe a left aligned one at the beginning?
),
indicating swiping to the next chapter. You could even make this a link so it could be tapped.
Biblica did something similar in their isiZulu Reach 4 Life app that works quite well visually:
