I wanted to share something I recently learned about this setting and suggest an updated wording to better reflect its functionality.
The current description for the Duration setting states: *“Specify how long you want this picture to be displayed when playing audio.”*However, this doesn’t fully capture what the setting actually does.
I’ve discovered that the duration setting in a Picture Story Book affects playback in two key ways:
• If the audio is short (e.g., 5 seconds) and you want the picture to remain visible longer, setting the duration to 10 seconds will keep the image displayed for an additional 5 seconds after the audio ends.
• If the audio is long (e.g., 3 minutes) and the image has motion (Ken Burns effect), the movement will appear too slow. Setting the duration to under 30 seconds, for example, results in a much better motion speed.
It is excellent that SAB provides the ability to adjust the speed of image motion! For years until now I was unaware of this feature, and it is likely that many other app builders are also not aware of it.
To clarify this functionality, I propose updating the wording to something like…
This setting determines how long the picture remains displayed beyond the length of the audio clip. It can also be used to speed up picture motion, in the case of longer audio clips.
