\cl before \c not working - actually putting it at chapter end

According to the Paratext formatting website, using a \cl line before a chapter \c should provide the ability to add a word to the chapter number. IE: Psalm 1 of Song 1. The format of the file is as follows and presents this way in a text editor such as “Atom”. After the initial Song showing verse 1 and 2, there are lines removed for brevity. The focus here is the
\cl and \c lines.

These formatting markers look correct and presents correctly in the “Viewer” and browser previews.

However, in SAB and looking at the “Book File” showing the verse layout the code looks like the following. Note the \cl in chapter one is showing at both the top and bottom.

In chapter two, there is no \cl at the top, and one at the bottom. And this repeats for the all the following chapters.

The problem is in the actual app only the number is showing at the top and the word “Song” shows up at the end of each chapter.

Everything seems to be “coded” correctly yet the Song 1, Song 2, … are not working in the actual app. Any ideas why this is happening? Or is this a bug of some sort?

I don’t know that it will make things display as you want in SAB, but it appears to me that you are NOT following the syntax suggested in the Note in the USFM documentation.

either: Place \cl Song ONCE BEFORE \c 1
or: Place \cl Song AFTER EVERY \c #

Also, each chapter starts at \c.
So, anything before \c will appear in the previous chapter.

Anything before \c 1 is applied to the entire book.
For the purpose of the app, the intro stuff is allocated to its own intro chapter, and main titles are included above chapter 1 as well as the intro.

This is why the \cl before \c 1 will affect all the chapter names,
but a \cl after each \c will affect that chapter name only.

Thanks for pointing out the ‘error of my ways’ EricP. I did read that and wonder if I was interpreting it correctly. Shame on me for not getting that from Greg’s earlier message to me.

That said, something is still odd about this. I have the corrected the sfm file with only one \cl Song in front of the first \c 1 line. Here’s the beginning of the SFM file.
