Google Play policy updates

Don’t forget to declare your target audience

As part of the latest Families policies, by September 1st all existing apps must fill in the new target audience and content section of the Google Play Console and comply with the new policies. New apps must be compliant upon publishing.

Your Play Store rating

Starting August 2019, app ratings will be calculated on your most recent ratings instead of a lifetime cumulative average.

Upcoming Google Play changes & policy deadlines

August 1st:

• If your app uses native code, you’ll need to provide a 64-bit version in order to publish an update. If you’re not sure that your app meets the requirement, you can check the status by uploading a draft version to the Play Console. You’ll see an alert if there’s anything to address. Please note extensions have been granted to games that use the following SDKs:

  • Corona Labs SDK - until August 2020
  • Adobe Air software and the AIR SDK - until August 2020
  • Unity 5.6.7 or older - until August 2021

Any new apps you publish must target at least Android 9 (API level 28).

September 1st:

• All apps must fill out the new target audience and content section of the Google Play Console and comply with updated Families policies.
