Promo Video NOT appearing on Playstore listing

We made a Playstore promo video and put the youtube link in the Publishing Playstore tab, but I do not see a link to the video anywhere. Is there a setting that must be enabled in SAB, or a Pulblishing property that must be set to enable a promo video appearing on a playstore listing?

I’m still hoping someone can share how to make a Promo Video appear on the Playstore. -RG

Have you tried to enter the URL in the Google Play Developer Console just to see if there is some other reason it isn’t accepted being display in the web UI?

Chris

Thanks for this suggestion Chris,

The App was published with Scriptoria and I am not a member of the Developer group so I am unsure how to access the Google Play Developer Console. The URL of the Promo Video is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNq9IVeY_Lk Maybe the https:// is not needed and causing the issue.

I do not see the video URL noted in the Play-listing or Play-listing manifest project files.

Roger

I do have access to the Play Store account where your app is published. That URL is assigned to the Store Listing information…

So there is some issue with the video.

I tried setting it to the full youtube url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAs7Lyys8ZY and sent it for review. We shall see what happens??

Chris

It turns out that copyrighted audio can have “no Impact” when published on Youtube, but when used in an app demo, it may cause the video to be rejected due to the way monetization works on YouTube.

I updated the demo video with music that has no copyright and confirmed this before including on the Playstore listing. The new video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSnyctg-SeM however is still not showing on the Playstore, even after I updated the app on Scrpitoria with the new video. The video is Public, has no restrictions, and adds/monetization is off.

Maybe you can check the console again to see any clues. --rg

Success finely. Watch here or here. To publish a Demo video on the Playstore listing:

  1. Do not use any music or content with a copyright. It must be copyright free or the Playstore will not include it. I found good choices at (https://pixabay.com/music/)
  2. Use the highest resolution possible on the screen recorder you use to make the video.
  3. If your app has audio or video, make sure to play a short clip of either or both. Lower the level of any background music, and boost the volume of the app 10-20% so it is easily heard.
  4. Format the video for Portrait Orientation with 960 x 1920 px resolution. This works best when viewing on a phone. You can try other sizes, but this size worked best for me.
  5. Do not use the shorter https://youtu.be/xxxxxxxx link. Use the full link like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld90mf8YviE
  6. Once you update the Playstore listing to include the video it may take up to 24 hours before the video appears on the Playstore. Google may change the format a bit after 24 hours so you might check it again in 1-2 days to make sure the appearance is what you want.
  7. On a phone the video thumbnail appears a landscape picture of the “feature graphic” you include in SAB. When you tap the video it changes to portrait, and then you need to tap full screen to see it clearly. I could not find a way to make the video play full screen automatically. If you find a way to make it play full screen please let me know.
  8. On a PC the video appears as a large portrait screenshot of the thumbnail you selected when you uploaded it to YouTube, and plays then you tap the TRAILER button to the right of the screen shot.

Also embedded Youtube apps like these demo videos often will not play if the phone is connected to a VPN. Lesser used VPN may work, but VPNs that are widely used trigger a Youtube message to login, which there is no way to do on the embedded screen.

If your testing your demo video and get a message to login, make sure you are not connected to a VPN, or try another VPN address.

@rgreen620 Thank you so much for all the work you have done to figure out how to do promo videos!
